07/02/2010 - Johannesburg, South Africa (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Asamoah Gyan missed a penalty kick on the last play of extra time for Ghana, then Uruguay goalie Fernando Muslera made two saves in the shootout as the South Americans advanced to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup on penalties, 4-2, after a 1-1 draw Friday at Soccer City.
Gyan converted two penalty kicks earlier in the tournament for Ghana, but after Uruguay's Luis Suarez handled the ball on his own goal line seconds before the final whistle in extra time, he smashed his penalty kick off the crossbar.
Uruguay converted its first three shootout attempts and, after Muslera saved penalties from Ghana's John Mensah and Dominic Adiyiah, Sebastian Abreu chipped in the winning spot kick.
Uruguay will play the Netherlands in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Suarez and Diego Forlan created a few opportunities as Uruguay controlled the opening 30 minutes, but Ghana weathered the storm and was a new team over the remainder of the first half.
Isaac Vorsah turned a header just inches wide of the left post in the 30th minute to spark the African side, and Gyan smashed a half-volley just inches wide of the right post one minute later.
Sulley Muntari then turned an innocent shot into the opening goal late in the first half when he caught Muslera wrong-footed and found the right side from about 40 yards.
Uruguay still looked stunned early after halftime but Forlan pulled his side level in the 55th off a free kick that dipped over a three-man wall and Kingson, and just under the crossbar.
Both sides created a few half-chances over the final 35 minutes but extra time seemed inevitable with both hesitant to push too many players forward.
Gyan, who scored early in extra time against the United States in the round of 16, came close to adding his second straight extra-time winner in the 98th, but Andres Scotti deflected his close-range shot just as it left his boot.
Both sides had a few more decent threats in the two extra sessions, but it was not until the final seconds that Ghana created a flurry of chances that led to the penalty kick.
Ghana had a few chances on the scramble, with Stephen Appiah having a chance cleanly cleared by Suarez before Adiyiah's rebound was swatted off the line by the Uruguay striker.
As Suarez walked off the pitch in tears, Gyan drilled the bar to send the game to the shootout. Ironically, Gyan hammered home his shootout penalty kick, but Muslera was the star of the session.
Forlan, Mauricio Victorino and Scotti converted Uruguay's first three attempts and, although Maxi Pereira missed the fourth shot, Muslera made two saves at his left post to end Ghana's run in South Africa.
Uruguay advanced to the final four for the first time since 1970. Ghana failed to become the first African nation to reach the semifinals.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.
Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.
Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.
Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com. Michael Vick is back, Brett Favre isn't and the NFC East remains the best division in the NFC, maybe in all of football.
As players start to gather for the start of another season, some things change and some stay the same in the world of the NFL.
The NFC East has been the dominant division in the National Conference for a while, despite limited playoff success, save for the New York Giants surprise Super Bowl win two seasons ago.
Hell, there's a generation of kids in Texas who have never seen the Cowboys win a playoff game (last win was in 1996).
But collectively, the Giants, Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins (well, maybe not so much the Redskins) are as good as a division gets in an NFC conference that has struggled to stay competitive with the AFC side.
Sports bettors have both acknowledged the NFC East's dominance, as one glance at the NFL future odds menu will show.
Looking over the NFL betting odds at online sports book MySportsbook.com we see the top three teams listed to win the NFC Championship are all from the NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys - 7 - 1
Philadelphia Eagles - 13 - 2
New York Giants - 9 - 2
Slotting in behind these three are two teams from the NFC North: the Minnesota Vikings (15-2) and the Chicago Bears (10-1).
Again, despite the lack of recent playoff success, the Dallas Cowboys are popular with the sports betting community, as they hold 14% of all the money wagered on who will win the NFC Championship.
So far, the New York Giants are the bettors' favorite to represent their conference in the Super Bowl, as they have 24% of the overall NFC Championship betting volume.
And what about the Philadelphia Eagles? For the most part, the Eagles had a very productive offseason, the kind that could bring them back to the top.
They had a good draft adding the likes of WR Jeremy Maclin and RB LeSean McCoy.
Unfortunately, the team received a blow when long-time defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away on Tuesday.
But this team will make a real run at the division title this year. Going into the regular season, Philly is listed at +240 to win the division.
Last season the Eagles were 9-6-1 SU and 10-6 ATS.
Teams from the NFC East will play teams from the AFC West in the regular season and the Eagles haven't really been a good bet in the last 20 games against the likes of San Diego, Oakland, K.C. and Denver, only going 8-12 ATS.
Two seasons removed from that Super Bowl title, the New York Giants see themselves listed as the odds-on favorite in NFC East championship futures at +162.
Plaxico Burress is gone and with him all the bad publicity surrounding the gun in the sweatpants incident, but can they replace him in the offense?
Last season the Giants were a very reliable bet going 12-4 ATS.
In the Giants' last 20 games against fellow teams from the NFC East; they are 13-7 ATS.
Dallas is listed at +240 to win the division.
Dallas went 9-7 SU and 7-9 ATS last season and with the amount of talent the Cowboys have, a similar performance won't do.
The Cowboys have been atrocious against divisional rivals, going 6-14 ATS in their last 20.
The Washington Redskins are longshots to win the division at +550.
