Yellow Jackets come calling on Commodores

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

12/09/2006 - Nashville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 25th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of the ACC and the Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC will meet in Nashville today.

Georgia Tech got off to a great start this season with wins in each of its first five games, but the club has lost two of the last three since that point. On Sunday, the Yellow Jackets began league play with a 90-82 setback to Miami, and the fact that they have now allowed 85 or more points in three of the last four games is cause for concern.

Vanderbilt began the campaign with losses in three of its first four contests, but the club has recorded three straight wins since that point. Two days ago, the Commodores rode a strong defensive effort to a 59-50 victory over Lipscomb, and they have held their last two foes to 112 total points after surrendering 70 or more points in each of the first five games.

Vandy holds a 36-32 edge in the all-time series with Georgia Tech, but the Yellow Jackets posted a 76-67 victory in last season's meeting.

Through eight games, Georgia Tech is scoring 86.1 ppg on 51.4 percent efficiency from the field, and it is allowing 73.8 ppg to the opposition. Four players are averaging double figures in scoring, and Lewis Clinch leads the way for the Yellow Jackets with 18.0 ppg on 57.5 percent shooting. Javaris Crittenton adds 14.8 ppg and 5.5 apg to the lineup, and Thaddeus Young is contributing 12.4 ppg. Rounding out the foursome is Jeremis Smith with 10.6 ppg. Clinch poured in 22 points in the loss to Miami last time out, while Crittenton and Ra'Sean Dickey pitched in 19 points apiece. Smith posted 11 points for the Yellow Jackets, who lost despite committing a mere eight turnovers. They allowed Miami to connect on 56.1 percent of its field goal attempts and earn a 37-31 rebounding advantage.

Vanderbilt has done a solid job at the offensive end this season, as the team is scoring 78.9 ppg. Defensively, it is permitting its opponents to post 74.1 ppg. The top offensive contributor for the Commodores is Derrick Byars, as he is netting 15.6 ppg. Shan Foster is close behind with 14.7 ppg, and Ross Neltner rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with 13.3 ppg. Byars was outstanding in the nine-point win over Lipscomb last time out, as he posted 18 points to go along with nine rebounds. As for Neltner, he pitched in 13 points for the Commodores, who won the game despite shooting 36.5 percent from the floor, including 23.5 percent from three-point range. Fortunately, they earned a 17-5 edge in points from the foul line and a 37-27 rebounding advantage. A low total of nine turnovers also helped the cause.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
